Buntingford Swimming Club was founded in 1976 with the intention of helping to improve the sporting activities for young people in the Buntingford area. The club's chairman (Eric Darlow) and teaching staff (Ken Brown and Roger Boxall) originally secured 2 hours pool time for club training every Thursday evening at the Freman swimming pool. The initial membership numbered approximately 130.

A competition to design the Club Logo was won by Wendy Moules (a young club member) and the winning design is still used today

Buntingford Swimming Club has continued since that time and has achieved varying degrees of success. Membership has fluctuated but has achieved renewed growth over the past few years, principally driven by our involvement in the ASA's Swim21 program.

The Club is now very well established with a current membership of approximately 110 and pool time has increased accordingly. The ages of our swimmers range from 6 to adult all of whom the club register with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).

In 2006 we added a second club training night on Tuesday for our swimmers to gain additional pool time.

With increased numbers and increased pool time, the club is becoming more competitive. We annually host internal club championships, we regularly compete at open meets and in individual galas against local teams and we currently participate in the Hertfordshire Peanuts Swimming League Division, and Hertfordshire Major League.
