Code of Behaviour

Background 
The purpose of this document is to establish a set of guidelines and procedures, which outline the responsibilities and behaviour of swimmers who are members of Buntingford Swimming Club.  It is expected that the principles  of this Code of Behaviour will be adopted by all club members at all events (including home and away galas, training sessions and on all other occasions representing BSC).  

Code of Behaviour 
  1. Behaviour and Personal Conduct must at all times be of a high standard and reflect favourably on Buntingford Swimming Club and the sport
  2. Language in public or relevant group situations must always be appropriate and socially acceptable.
  3. Consumption of alcohol is forbidden for those club members under age as defined by UK law.
  4. Smoking is prohibited by swimmers whilst representing Buntingford Swimming Club.  
  5. Illegal drugs / substances and other performance enhancing drugs / substances are strictly forbidden (it is expected that information on all medication being currently taken should be reported to the Team Manager who will report it to the relevant personnel as appropriate).
  6. Attendance at all activities is anticipated when requested by the Team Manager. 
  7. Personal Appearance shall be appropriate to the circumstances.  Team kit and equipment shall be worn when competing and training, at official team functions or on other occasions as notified.  
  8. Punctuality on all occasions is expected. 
  9. Club members are expected to comply with the codes, rules and laws within the guidelines set out by the ASA. 
  10. Club members will behave without discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, language, religion, birth or social status. 
  11. Club members will respect the basic human rights,  worth and dignity of each member and will treat other competitors / teams with respect in victory / defeat. 
  12. The authority and decisions of all officials will be observed by club members. 
  13. Club members will encourage all swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules and laws both in and out of the pool. 
Breaches of Code of Behaviour 
Should any club official find it necessary to discipline any swimmer as a consequence of a breach of the clubs code of behaviour, the swimmer's future behaviour will be closely monitored.  If a future incident occurs, the committee may implement its disciplinary procedure, a copy of which is available from the club secretary. 
Parents/guardians support
Parents and guardians are encouraged to actively support their children with respect to their endeavours relating to Buntingford Swimming Club.  The committee ask that parents/guardians undertake to:-
  1. Fully support the Club's Code of Behaviour. 
  2. Report all relevant medical conditions of their children to a committee member in a timely manner. 
  3. Ensure their children are punctual in arriving for training sessions. 
  4. Encourage their children's attendance at club-related events when requested. 
  5. Maintain a current emergency contact number and current email address with the club secretary. 
  6. Where possible, to assist with Swimming Club related activities when volunteers are sought.
